Avoid taking out too many loans while you are in college. Take good notes on what you need each semester and only take that much out. You will have to pay it back at some point, and most loans accrue interest. You do not want to owe a ton of money by the time you are done.

While many students avoid using this next tip, it is one that everyone could benefit from. Sit towards the front of the class whenever possible. Studies have actually shown that students tend to understand the material better and develop a better relationship with their professors if they sit towards the front of the class.

Do not get involved with the people that want to party all of the time. Having fun during college is important, but there is a time and a place. If you allow yourself to fall into those bad habits your grades will surely suffer. Only have fun when you have done everything you need to do.

Make a commitment to your education. If you go into school thinking of it like a big party, then that's exactly what you'll get out of it. And you more than likely won't last the four years. A lot of money is being spent on your education, so you need to commit yourself to your success.

If you are unsure of what to major in, take a variety of classes. All majors have the same basic "core" requirements, so you can start working towards a degree even if you don't know what the degree will be in yet. These courses can also give you a sampling of the different areas of study, letting you get a feel for what is available and maybe find something that strikes your interest.

Make certain that you have your FAFSA submitted very early in the year. This is the financial aid that is automatically given by the government. The earlier you apply, the more certain you are to receive your benefits. Sometimes, the finances can run out, especially at smaller educational institutions. Be prepared!

Take as many credits as you can handle at one time. Most universities charge you per credit, but only up to twelve credits. After that the rest of the credits in that semester are free. Taking eighteen credits per semester will leave you paying one-third less than your peers for the same education.

Carefully choose what you want to major in. Do not pick a major just because it is popular or it is what your parents want you to study. You need to choose a market that you can see yourself in for years to come, as choosing the wrong major could lead to unhappiness.

Flash cards are not just a helpful tool for younger children; they can really help you with your college classes as well. In addition to them being a great visual tool for helping you to remember important information, they are also easy for you to carry around wherever you go.

When you are studying for a test, it is important that you take a break once in awhile. Studying can take a toll on both your physical and mental health, especially if you do not allow yourself a breather now and then. Take a walk or watch some TV for a little while.

Read the course syllabus first thing. The syllabus will tell you when your instructor is available to answer questions and provide extra help. You will quickly see what will be expected of you in the course. The syllabus tells you what your instructor wants you to learn, and thus how to prepare for tests.

The library may be your best friend when it comes to finding study material. With the invention of the Internet, more and more people avoid the library. This is a mistake because the library usually contains books, newspapers, and other helpful resources that simply cannot be found on the Internet.

Flip-flops aren't just for politicians! Be sure to wear your flip-flops every time you use the dorm shower. They will protect you from getting athletes foot; however, don't stop there. Be sure to dry your feet thoroughly after showering and use a medicated powder. Pay special attention to the area between your toes. Be sure to store your flip-flops in such a way that they will dry thoroughly between uses. For example, you could hang them over a hanger in your closet if there is enough room for air circulation.
